ALNWICK Gate A stretched their lead at the summit of the Alnwick Premier Darts League’s top tier with a fine 5-2 victory over Blue Bell A.
In what was a derby battle against the Division A high-fliers, Ken Snaith and Willie Taylor landed 180s for the Bell, but it was not enough to stop their side falling to defeat on Friday night.
The league-leading Gate were aided by some good finishing from Kev Fletcher who checked out on 102 in one leg.
A fine display at the oche was also seen in the second derby clash of the night between two of the division’s other form teams – Gate B and Bell Bar B.
The Gate’s Keith Bell and Mick Miller were on form, both landing 180s, as their side earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory to leap-frog their opponents in the table and haul themselves up to second.
Other Division A matches saw The George beat Fleece 5-2 while Oddies B enjoyed a win over John Bull by the same scoreline.
In Division B, leaders Alnwick Working Men’s Club (AWMC) B maintained their title-winning credentials with a 6-1 victory over The Market Tavern, with John Dennis hitting his second 180 of the season for the victors.
W Oliver of AWMC A also hit a maximum, but it was not enough to stop his side from losing a close encounter against Alnwick Gate C, who took the honours 4-3.
Alnwick Castle Golf Club A beat Oddies A by the same scoreline while The Hotspur teed-up a 5-2 victory over Alnwick Castle Golf Club B.
