Whitehaven 4 Alnwick Town 2

Northern League, Division Two

Alnwick Town’s recent run of decent league results under new manager Derek Atwell came to a halt this afternoon in an action-packed game in which both teams finished with 10 men.

Hosts Whitehaven spent the longest time with reduced numbers, losing their man in the first half.

By then, Dale Kennedy had scored for Alnwick and a penalty had brought the scores level.

Kennedy scored again for Town, but the Whitehaven 10 equalised and scored again before the break to make it 3-2.

Despite their best efforts, the visitors were hit on the break for 4-2. Whitehaven also had a penalty saved.

Then in injury-time, Alnwick’s Murray was given his marching orders.
