Hedgeley Rovers...0 Red Row Welfare...12

North Northumberland League, Division Two

RED Row maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with another high-scoring victory away to Hedgeley.

Darren Smith opened the scoring after two minutes with a simple tap-in, before doubling Red Row’s lead minutes later after a powerful run and fine cross from Karl Taylor.

Hedgeley came into the game and played some good football in spells but Marc Mavin was in no mood to be beaten, saving well from a good long-range effort.

Kevin Bell got off the mark, heading in from another Taylor cross after some fine work from Robert Baker.

Baker then set up Smith for yet another hat trick, playing him through to make it 4-0.

Jordan Giles then got himself on the scoresheet, bursting forward from centre-half and playing a neat one-two with Bell before side-footing home.

Red Row grabbed a sixth goal before half-time after Bell’s effort was parried into the path of the returning Alex Potts, who slotted into the bottom corner.

Red Row carried on in the same vein in the second half and Sean Palmer made it 7-0 with a left-foot drive to carry on his good run of goal-scoring form.

Bell then went goal crazy, rounding the keeper for his second, latching onto a superb Mavin punt for his third, tapping in from close range for his fourth, before chipping the ball up and hitting it on the half-volley from 25 yards into the roof of the net.

It was five goals on the day for Bell and 12 in the last two games.

Not to be outdone, Darren Smith got his fourth late on after good work from Whenray and Palmer to ensure both strike partners were level on 17 goals each going into next week’s massive Robson Cup game against rivals Newbiggin.
