Longhoughton Ladies 1 Prudhoe Town 13

Longhoughton Ladies hosted Prudhoe Town for the second time in three weeks and Rangers were looking for revenge.

Longhoughton started well and held their own for a good 15 minutes. But, a few issues in Rangers’ defence saw Prudhoe score a succession of goals. They held their heads high and ploughed everything into the game.

The midfield skill of Ryder, Baxter, Graham and Briggs provided opportunities for Dagliesh and Dawson but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Rangers defence could not match the pace and skill of the Prudhoe attack. Keeper Price was put under severe pressure and couldn’t save all the shots at her goal. A desperate attempt to clear the ball from the goal-line saw Ryder score in her own net, adding to Prudhoe’s tally.

The second half started in the same vein.

The Rangers defence of Conway, Hall, Taylor and Roach had their work cut out chasing the young Prudhoe attack and tried to play the ball forward. Somehow it worked, allowing Dagliesh, Briggs and Graham to beat the Prudhoe defence and captain Graham scored a spectacular goal. A few moments later, a foul on the Rangers attack saw Ryder step to the penalty spot but her attempt skimmed the crossbar.

Rangers left the pitch knowing that they could have, and should have done better.
