Pin Point Recruitment Combination Cup

AMBLE continued their sparkling season by knocking Newcastle University out of the Combinstion Cup to reach the final.

But their trip to Newcastle got off to a bad start when University took the lead in the ninth minute. Centre-forward Edward Savit fired in the ball from close range (1-0).

They increased their lead in the 24th minute when a free-kick from wide on the right was floated in by Patrick Stokle. Edward Savit was there to volley the ball home (2-0).

Amble did have one or two good chances but they just could not put them away and at half-time, it was 2-0 to the University.

After the interval, Amble got the game under way once again and started to play the better football. They were creating some good chances but found the home keeper Weston Marua in good form, pulling off some very good saves.

The home side tried to increase their lead but found the Amble back four very hard to break down and it looked like Amble were going out of the cup until the 96th minute when Lee Harker fired home from close range (2-1).

In the 90th minute, Sean Taylor was on hand to fire the ball home to equalise and take the game into extra-time (2-2).

The Amble side took the lead in the 105th minute when Darren Riddell beat the offside trap to run on and guide the ball into the bottom of the net to make the score at the end of the first period of extra-time 3-2 to Amble.

In the second period of extra-time, Amble played controlled football but could not increase their lead, the game ended with a 3-2 win for Amble which takes them into the final of the cup.
