Trap triumph

Morpeth Riverside...2 North End Trap Broomhill...3

Morpeth Sunday League, Division Two

THE Trap boys got lucky in their latest league game as they stuttered to an away win.

Morpeth took the lead with a well-worked goal but big Dave Whenray grabbed a very well-taken equaliser with a fine shot on the turn.

Morpeth went in front again as unfortunate right-back Ian Turnbull scored an own-goal.

The introduction of Josh Baston at half-time was the spur the away side needed and, with his first touch, he cracked a fine strike past Morpeth’s number one.

The Trap missed a penalty, but with 10 minutes to go, up stepped centre-half and man-of-the-match Jonny Spiers to collect a peach of a pass from Jaden Gray to chest down and volley the winner into the top corner with a screamer.

The lads need to get better as they have got a big month coming up, with cup and league games against teams around them at the top of Morpeth Sunday League, Division Two.

They have not yet got out of second gear, with individuals performing but not gelling as a team.
