ALNWICK Town’s title party has been put on ice, after the St James Park side were held 3-3 at Heaton Stannington last night.
It means the battle to win the Northern Alliance Premier Division will go down to the wire and will be decided on the final game of the season.
A win for Alnwick on Saturday will see them lift the crown, but second-placed Ponteland United are waiting in the wings and could pounce if Alnwick stumble against Heaton Stannington.
United are two points behind table-topping Town but have a better goal difference, so a home victory over Blyth Town at the weekend could see them overhaul their championship rivals and take the prize.
Alnwick’s final league game of the season is at home and kick-off is 2.30pm.
Only a win will absolutely guarantee the title without having to rely on United’s result, so the Gazette would encourage everyone to go along and support the team.
