Ross Straughan scored a 94th-minute equaliser for Alnwick Town to snatch a last-gasp point against Brandon United in Northern League Division Two this afternoon.

Bottom side Brandon took a second-half lead but could not hold on to claim what would have been only their second league win of the season.

Instead, it was Town celebrating at the end of the game, thanks to Straughan’s late heroics.

Visiting Alnwick, who are sixth-bottom, thought they had taken the lead in the first half after Jake Lowes had the ball in the net, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The result meant that both sides picked up their first point of 2015, after losing starts to the new year.
