Town land plum tie at former FA Vase holders

Alnwick Town have drawn Whitley Bay away in the Quarter Final of the Techflow Group Senior Cup.

The St James’ Park side lost 7-3 to the Seahorses at the same stage of the competition last season.

Town defeated Heaton Stannington to reach the last eight this time round, while Bay, former FA Vase holders, received a bye.

It is something of a plum tie for Town, of Northern League, Division Two, but they know it will be a tough test against Whitley Bay, who play in the division above.

The draw comes on the same day that Town beat South Shields 2-1 in the league, while the Seahorses defeated Bedlington Terriers 4-1 in the first round of the FA Vase.

The other quarter-final matches are Morpeth Town v West Allotment Celtic, Newcastle United U21s v Team Northumbria and Blyth Spartans v Ashington. The dates for the last-eight matches are still to be confirmed.
