A BROOMHILL footballer has just returned from a week of coaching in sunny California.
Charles Towers was given the chance thanks to Trident Soccer.
He said: “It was a fantastic experience to visit Los Angeles and oversee the development and coaching techniques in the US.
“Technically, the youngsters were exceptional and it’s easy to understand how the US game is developing at such a fast rate. The facilities are first class and provide all-year-round training and coaching owing to the climate. The players are comfortable with the ball and create play through neat passing and movement.”
FA coaches Ryan and Shaun Jobson set up Trident Soccer 16 years ago. The former Gosforth Bohemians and Newcastle Blue Star duo also played and coached professionally in the US during 2001.
The brothers later invited over Boston team-mate Brandon Jantz to gain coaching experience and FA qualifications before returning to establish USA Trident in his native California.
In recent years, UK and US players, coaches and football teams have enjoyed Trident exchange visits to gain further experience.
Charles was coached through the Trident Soccer Academy development programme from the age of ten as both a goalkeeper and outfield player. He became a key performer for Ryan Jobson’s teams in the Northern Alliance, Morpeth Sunday and North Northumberland League structures.
The youngster played in every outfield position as a 16 and 17-year-old and later became an integral part of the coaching and managerial inner-circle. The former Coquet High School pupil graduated with a sport and exercise development degree from Sunderland University last year.
