THE Mayor of Amble, Leslie Bilboe has presented a cheque of £350 to FC Amble Juniors Under 10s.

It followed the receipt of a grant application, which was considered by the town council’s finance committee.

Barry Paton, the manager of the newly-founded football team based in Amble, applied for funding towards start-up costs for the team who are to compete in the Northumberland Mini Soccer League.

Barry said he is trying to provide an opportunity for the young people of Amble to divert their energy into a worthwhile venture rather than wandering the streets and getting up to potential mischief via boredom.

Barry is managing the team on a voluntary basis after 20 years of playing football locally.

The council agreed funding to cover the costs of training equipment, footballs, goalposts and nets, seeing the new team as a welcome addition to the town, helping to promote a healthy lifestyle through activities.
