Longhoughton Rangers U14 Girls
RANGERS U14 Girls celebrated the end of their successful season with a trip to the Women’s FA Cup Final on Saturday, May 21.
The girls, all players for Longhoughton Rangers FC U14s, took the trip down to the Ricoh Arena in Coventry to watch Arsenal Ladies take on Bristol Academy in the 2011 EON-sponsored, Women’s FA Cup Final.
The trip was arranged by manager Neil Parry, and paid for in full by the club, to encourage the girls to take an interest in the women’s game as part of their football development.
After a long five-hour drive down to Coventry, the girls had ring-side seats as they watched Arsenal take a thrilling lead through the dynamic Kim Little before Julie Fleeting added a second for the Gunners, as the star-studded Arsenal Ladies went on to lift the trophy.
Of note were a number of Arsenal players from the North East, including the impressive 18-year-old Jordan Nobbs and Steph Houghton, both previously of Sunderland Ladies.
The girls all had a fantastic day, thoroughly enjoyed the game and were even responsible for starting a Mexican wave that rippled all the way round the 13,000-plus crowd within the stadium.
Next year, the Longhoughton girls are hoping to take on some continental opposition as they plan a football tour to Holland at the end of the 2011-2012 season.
Longhoughton Rangers FC Girls are looking for new players to join them for the 2011-2012 season.
