Alnwick Town put in a strong performance at Greenfields on Sunday against the unbeaten league-leaders North Shields.

Both teams met only three weeks ago, when Shields comfortably won 4-0, but the tide turned on Sunday.

Alnwick always looked in control and had chances to go ahead but a shot from Alnwick skipper Harry Felton was blocked on the goal-line.

Elliott Wass and Tom Forster made some crunching tackles and this kept the score at 0-0 at half-time.

The second half was only five minutes old when Alnwick took the lead from Owen Johnson after a great cross from Forster.

The lead was quickly doubled when the prolific Aynsley turned in from close range.

Shields kept pushing but man-of-the-match George Frewing made save after save, keeping his goal intact.

Alnwick scored a third through Max Paige, after good wing-play from Aynsley.

A penalty miss by the visitors in the dying minutes kept the score at 3-1 to Alnwick.
