Rovers draw the sting from Pythons

U10 Glendale League

Rothbury Rovers 5 Alnwick Pythons 1

Rothbury Rovers drew the sting of Alnwick Pythons in a strong, disciplined victory in the Glendale League on Saturday. Just as Alnwick thought they’d escaped conceding a goal following a cross-shot that hit the post, Charlie Hall-Scope was on hand to sweep the ball home to give Rothbury an early lead. Then from a briiliantly struck corner, and despite the heroics of Ziggy Austen-Walker on the Rothbury goal-line, the ball swerved unerringly into the corner of the Rothbury net. Then as Alnwick pressed they left themselves exposed on the counter attack. Finding space on the left, Thorsten’s subsequent run broke the Alnwick rearguard. As the first Rothbury goal, Thorsten’s shot was deflected back off the post for an on rushing Gareth Rickaby to smash it home for a 2-1 interval lead.

A run from Gareth saw Thorsten and Charlie combine with a slick passing move that found Gareth in space. Gareth’s shot was too hot to hold for the Alnwick goalkeeper and ball looped up for Charlie Hall-Scope to be in the right place to head the ball home. Next Gareth intercepted an Alnwick attack and outstripped the Alnwick midfield before smashing the ball into the right-hand corner of the Alnwick goal, before sealing his hat-trick on a counter attack as Alnwick pressed forward. Again he found space down the right and again his shot was too hot for the Alnwick keeper to hold.
