Glendale League U12

Rothbury 1 Longhorsley 1

A closely-fought U12 Glendale encounter saw both teams kick off their campaigns with an unbeaten start.

Longhorsley started the more confident of the two teams.

But Rothbury were the first to score.

James Williams fed the ball to Thorsten Robinson who made a shot at the Longhorsley goal.

The keeper commendably parried this shot but couldn’t stop Rothbury striker David O’Dowd who swept the rebound home with a glorious half-volley in the top left (1-0).

With more swagger in them, Rothbury looked set to score again but Longhorsley struck back.

Drew Coates made an excellent forward run into his opponent’s box.

The return ball found Coates with space and time in the Rothbury area and his finish was clinical (1-1).

The second half saw Rothbury start on top but injury to Rothbury’s James Williams meant Longhorsley almost took the lead.

As Rothbury tired, Longhorsley grew stronger and stronger.

The Rothbury defence were put to the test but admirable work from Hugh Dennis and Alex Kidd kept Longhorsley at bay.
