RANGERS visited high-flying Wall-send on Sunday in a league clash that was a great advert for youth football, with three goals, two penalties, shots hitting the woodwork and goal-line clearances.
Rangers appeared to have broken the deadlock on 17 minutes with a three-man move that started with a long kick from keeper WillHall.
Jordan Turnbull picked up the loose ball and crossed for Chris Gardner to shoot home, however, he was adjudged to be offside.
On 31 minutes, Wallsend conceded a free-kick about 35 yards out on the left. Sam Eastham dispatched a great diagonal ball to the far post and Ryan Harrison was in to slot the ball home to send Rangers into half-time with a deserved 1-0 lead.
Two minutes after the restart, Kieran Taylor, who had replaced Hall in goal saved a penalty. Fifteen minutes into the half, Chris Gardner earned and despatched a Rangers penalty (0-2).
Over the last 10 minutes, Wallsend piled on the pressure and came close on two occasions hitting the bar and seeing a chance cleared off the line by Joe Lewis. Wallsend scored on the one occasion their star striker got free of the attentions of Eastham and Hume (1-2).
