RANGERS were in action at Westfield Park for the first time this year against Blyth and a large crowd enjoyed a close, entertaining match.

The early stages of the first half saw the home side with more possession and it was against the run of play that the visitors took the lead on 15 minutes.

Rangers lost possession in the middle and a great through-ball found the Blyth captain, who scored with a fine finish (0-1).

The visitors almost doubled their advantage when a shot from just inside the area hit the post and rolled along the line, only for Robson to clear.

Longhoughton were industrious in midfield and struggled to find a killer pass to break down the visitors’ defence.

The only good scoring opportunities came from several free-kicks, one notably from Coxford that whistled past the back-post.

The second half continued the theme of the first as Rangers continued to work hard and compete in midfield without really threatening.

Keeper Slack was having a solid game sweeping up when required.

Rangers’ equaliser on 55 minutes had an element of fortune as Briggs’ cross from the left found its way into net, leaving the keeper flat-footed (1-1).

This gave Rangers fresh impetuous and they nearly gained the lead after Coxford’s cross from the right found the head of Turnbull directing the ball goalwards only for the keeper to save. Chances came at both ends but at the final whistle it remained all-square which was a fair reflection of the game.
