Morpeth Sunday League round-up

HMP Northumberland recorded a good 6-2 league win over leaders Ashington RAOB thanks to a Nathan Winter brace and single goals from Scott Willis, Steven Langton, Darren Burn and John Neil.

RAOB’s scorers were Kieran Robson and Lee Scott. That’s now back-to-back defeats for the Buffs and they still need a few more points to wrap up the league title.

In the Bedlington derby, Barrington and Social Club played out a 1-1 draw.

The Barrington had led the game for over an hour after an early Chris Moffitt free-kick curled into the top corner via a deflection from Social Club defender Anthony Reay. Bedlington Social Club equalised with one of the more bizarre goals you’re likely to see this season. A long kick by goalkeeper Liam Douglas flicked off Barrington defender Josh Laverick’s head before bouncing awkwardly on the bobbly surface and looping over Barrington goalkeeper Simon Brown to level the game.

In Group 1 of the Subsidiary Cup, Stobswood edged out Bedlington FC at home with a 3-2 scoreline. Stobswood scorers were Robert Baker, Chris Hawkins and Luke Phillips.

In Group 2 of the Subsidiary Cup, Morpeth Shambles defeated Morpeth Wansbeck 14-0, with the goalscorers: Ryan Murphy (five) Ashley McAlpine (three) Kyle Shaw (three), Stephen Warwick (two) and Michael Carr.
