WALLSEND BC 1

Shilbottle had to settle for a share of the points in this hard fought encounter at the Welfare Ground.

Wallsend arrived having won their four previous games without conceding a goal and proved to be tough opponents.

In a fairly even opening period Wallsend had an effort that struck a post and Sean Straker in the Shilbottle goal pulled off a fine save. The Colliers then had a couple of efforts blocked on the line before taking the lead on the half hour. Josh Hay broke clear only to be foiled by the Wallsend keeper but he regained possession to square the ball for Liam Brooks to smash home from ten yards.

Hay then had another effort blocked on the line before Wallsend drew level just before the break. A ball into the box was fumbled by the Shilbottle keeper and Jason Walsh followed up to force the ball home.

The Colliers had the benefit of the wind in the second period but were finding it difficult to break down the visiting defence. Liam Brooks had an effort well saved and when the visitors had a man sent off with 20 minutes to play they seemed intent on playing for the draw.

Continuous pressure from the Colliers produced a multitude of corners late in the game but they were unable to find a winner.
