Amble played their catch up game on Saturday, February 26 against North Shields Ospreys.

Amble got off to a good start with David Purvis scoring for Amble from close range with a right foot finish (1-0).

Zack Davison started off Amble’s next attack, winning the ball in his own half, then playing a nice ball through to Brandon McCann, he then slipped the ball through to David Purvis to score his second of the game with another right foot finish (2-0).

With Amble on the attack again the ball was put out for a corner. David Purvis put in a good corner for Zack Davison whose shot hit the bar.

Joseph Flanighan played a good ball through to Brandon McCann. He then squared the ball to David Purvis who put his shot just wide of the net.

Into the second quarter, a lovely passing move involving Joseph Flanighan, Brandon McCann and David Purvis found Mathew Thompson in space on the right but he put his shot just wide of the goal.

North Shields attacked Amble but Benjamin Southward, who was the last defender, covered well and put the ball out for a corner. From the corner Niall Black collected the ball to stop the Shields’ forwards.

With Amble on the break again, another corner was awarded to Amble, with Joseph Flanighan crossing for Brandon McCann, who laid the ball off to Robert Straughan, hitting a first-time ball which went just over the Shields crossbar.

Niall Black pulled off two saves in quick succession for Amble to keep their two-goal advantage.

Benjamin Southward again at the back for Amble cleared the ball to Joseph Flanighan then to Brandon McCann whose shot was saved by the Shields keeper.

With Amble pushing for the third goal, another good move involving Davison, Thompson, McCann followed with a shot by David Purvis, looking to be going in the top corner was finger tipped over the bar from the Shields keeper.

Shields then broke playing some good football from box-to-box, coolly placed the ball in the back of the net for a 2-1 score.

Amble attacked from the kick off with Ross Ramsay having a good run with the ball into the Shields penalty area with a left foot strike, which was saved.

Benjamin Southward now in nets for Amble pulled off a couple of good saves to deny Shields while a couple of efforts went just wide.

With the score still 2-1, Amble had a good chance through David Purvis, with the Shields keeper saving well again.

With both teams having chances in the last quarter it was Shields who scored a scrappy goal to level the scores and take a share of the points on the day.
