Second-half strikes from Johnny Mann and Stephen Howes gave Blyth Town their 12th straight win, but they had to work hard to break down a resolute Northbank defence in this afternoon’s Newcastle Building Society Premier Division clash.
Elsewhere in the division, Carlisle City went up into second spot, 10 points behind the leaders but with two games in hand, as Ryan Errington hit a hat-trick at Ashington Colliers. Rob McCartney grabbed the winner after Joseph Bolam, Jamie Patterson and Joe Moscrop had netted for the hosts.
North Shields Athletic’s Craig Boyle bagged a brace in their success against Red House Farm. Scott Jasper added the other, with Zak Brogden netting twice in reply.
The goals were raining in at Killingworth Station, where Whitley Bay A’s Andrew Robertson also grabbed a hat-trick. Dillon Blake added two more and Connor Johnson got the other while Alex Benjamin (two), Martin Roper and Colin White crashed in for the hosts in a breathless encounter.
There were goals galore at Walker Central, too, with John Robson netting four and Mark McDonnell three against Hebburn Reyrolle, with a John Murray double sandwiched in between.
Sameet Brar, Mason Stephenson and Jamie Heathcote scored for Seaton Delaval against Wallington, who struck back through Tom Truscott and late goals from John Paxton and Ben Fenwick to claim a point.
Rutherford’s Zak Atkinson hit three, with Andy Davidson and David Boyle getting the others in a Durham FA Trophy win at Birtley Saint Josephs Development side.
Whickham Sporting also advanced in the competition thanks to strikes from Kev Hay (three), John Dewhirst (two), Liam Henderson and Michael Hutchinson.
Nike Division One
Sean Smith shot leaders Percy Main ahead at Birtley Saint Josephs but suffered their first League defeat as Tony Smith and Luke Steele hit back after the break.
Wooler were trailing at Ponteland United early on when Peter Scott fired the hosts in front but the Glendalers turned things around with strikes from James Scott and Frazer Tait.
Pete Hall (two) and Lachlan Naisby were on the scoresheet for Bohemians in their win over Hexham, who scored courtesy of David Hall and Tommy Bainbridge and Luke Walker were Chemfica’s hit-men in their win at Blyth Isabella, who saw Dan Scovel net a debut goal.
Bay Plastics Division Two
Longbenton’s Connor Graham celebrated a hat-trick in a 5-2 victory over Newcastle Benfield Reserves, with Rob Edwards and Chris Sword getting the others, while Gateshead Leam Rangers hot-shot Liam Barnett also struck a treble in their win at Whitburn Athletic. Simon Price added the other, with Gary Archbold replying.
Forest Hall’s Andrew McBride, Darren Robinson and James Milner beat the keeper in their narrow win at West Allotment Celtic A, with Ridi Muteba and Ben Jackson the host’s scorers, and Paul Hargreaves, Brian Allen, Chris Grant and Danny Igo (penalty) were on the scoresheet for Swalwell as they beat Wideopen.
Shilbottle’s Josh Hay plundered four in their 9-0 Northumberland FA Minor Cup success at Newcastle City. Matty Graham and Liam Brooks added two apiece with Ronald Murray rounding things off while Jonathon Storey (two) and Grant Richardson netted for Lindisfarne Custom Planet as they advanced at Lowick United.
