No shame in defeat by the big boys

River Coquet...3 Bomersund...5

FRIENDLY

RIVER hosted the Division One big boys at the Welfare in typically English August weather, rain pouring down non-stop and sub zero temperatures.

The game started brightly with both clubs setting off a fast-paced game with Bomersund forcing an early corner which was punched clear by Davison in the River goal.

The ball was picked up by Andy Taylor who played it to Burton who knocked a cross in for Keen to volley home.

No sooner had the game kicked back off before Bomersund had pulled the score back to 1-1 after Bone finished a cross in front of the River goal.

A shot from Gary Taylor was palmed into feet of Keen who has his shot saved as River piled on some pressure.

A good strike from the Bomersund striker forced Davison into a good save.

A long-range strike by Bomersund midfielder slipped between Davison’s hands due to wet conditions to take the score to 2-1, but as Bomersund did to River they did back as Gary Taylor sublimely took the ball on his chest and smashed his left-footed volley into the top corner to take the scores to 2-2.

A bad challenge on Andy Taylor involved Dan Dewson taking a punch and resulted in a minor scuffle.

A shot going wide hit the Bomersund player to redirect in Davison’s net to take River into half-time 3-2 down.

Good play down the left flank between Gary Taylor and Dobey resulted in a beautiful ball which Burton was only just beaten to at the back post by a defender.

A goalmouth scramble led to a fourth goal for Bomersund, but River didn’t lie down and take it as Keen added a second goal in good fashion as he curled a shot into top corner to take scores to 4-3.

The goal that finished the game was by far the softest gof the game before the pitch was invaded by a local ‘One Man and His Dog’ dog.

Even though River were beaten, it wasn’t like this time last year when they were soundly beaten 18-0 in the same fixture, and there can be no embarrassment from this defeat with Bomersund being an established Division One club.
