Alnwick Town Cobras U10 1 Longhoughton Rangers U10 4
NMSL U10s, Serie A
With bragging rights at stake this local derby served up a feast of football, with both sides displaying pride, passion and purpose in abundance.
The game sparked into life after just four minutes as Longhoughton took the lead.
Jack Brookes in the Rangers defence intercepted a long ball and laid a short pass into Ben Lawton. He turned and played a defence-splitting pass into the path of Lewis Fairbairn who slammed home (0-1).
Alnwick responded with some neat interplay on the wing which created a couple of chances which were comfortably saved by Zac Stephenson in the Longhoughton goal.
The second half couldn’t have started any better for Rangers, finding themselves two up within 18 seconds of the restart.
With the Cobras kicking off, the livewire Lawton immediately pounced on a loose ball, darted up the right wing and fired a low cross into the box which was met by Fairbairn on the full for his second of the game (0-2).
With 15 minutes gone, Kristian Atkinson won a ball from an Alnwick throw and fed Lawton, who jinked one way then the other before finding Fairbairn. He made no mistake for his third hat-trick in four games (0-3).
The goal seemed to sting the Cobras into life and a sustained period of pressure followed. Eventually the pressure told and Archie Smith capitalised on a mistake in the Longhoughton defence to unleash a rocket of a shot (1-3).
But within a minute of the restart Rangers regained their three-goal advantage with the move of the match.
Roan Brayson broke up a Cobras move and with a delightful bit of skill, created space for himself and played one-twos with both Robinson and Atkinson before laying a ball into the box for Fairbairn.
Instead of shooting, he rolled a square pass into the path of man-of-the-match Lawton to finish with aplomb.
