Northumberland Mini Soccer U10: North Shields Ospreys 0 FC Amble Juniors 2
Having played Shields last week at home, getting a 2-2 draw after countless chances to win the game, Amble travelled to Shields for their away tie, not having a single chance on target in the first quarter, with David Purvis and Ross Ramsay having the best efforts, both just wide of the target.
It was more of a defensive display from Zack Davison, Robert Straughan and Ross Ramsay, starting at left back, who all made good interceptions winning the ball.
Amble had Niall Black to be thankful for with a superb block with the Shields striker in for a one-on-one.
With Shields on the attack again they played the ball into the penalty area, with a header on goal, which hit Niall Black bang in the face going out of play. From that corner the ball was cleared to safety, 0-0 at the break.
Into the second quarter Joseph Flanighan played the ball up to David Purvis inside the penalty area, Purvis turned and played the ball back for Ross Ramsay who again fired just wide of the goal.
More chances fell to Purvis, McCann, Ramsay and Thompson, all going wide of the Shields net while Niall Black pulled off two good saves to keep the home team at bay.
Into the third quarter there were some more neat passing involving Mathew Thompson, David Purvis and Brandon McCann.
The Shields defender won the ball and played up field. Wilf Campbell had the task of marking their big number six, who was one of their main threats working down the left wing now, with Campbell matching him tackle for tackle, winning the ball cleanly.
Niall Black again pulled off more good saves to deny the home team, with their captain missing another good opportunity from close range with a header going over the Amble crossbar, to leave the game 0-0 going into the last quarter.
From the kick off Joseph Flanighan and Brandon McCann played some lovely one-twos working their way into the penalty area. McCann placed the ball into the back of the net from close range to open the scores, 0-1. Two minutes later Brandon McCann scored his second of the match, again within the penalty area for a 0-2 score.
