Juniors claim points in close encounter

Ashington U16 2 FC Amble Juniors U16 3

PinPoint Recruitment U16s League, Division Two

Having played Ashington a couple of weeks ago and drawing 2-2 at home, the Amble boys knew what they were up against and what they needed to do this time around to get a win under the belts.

With Amble starting the brightest, Jason Imeson and Tristan Oliver had early chances, the first going just wide, then their keeper pulling off a good save.

However, Ashington scored with a header at the back-post from a corner to take the lead (1-0).

It did not take long for Amble to equalise, with Ali Batey playing the ball to Tristan Oliver, who found Callum Fenwick to hit a first-time volley, giving their keeper no chance this time around (1-1).

Oliver soon made it 1-2 after cutting in from the right-hand side into the penalty area, before hitting a left-foot shot to beat the keeper from close range.

Centre-back Nathan Potts threw himself into every tackle for Amble.

From an Amble corner that was whipped in by Fenwick, Andy Flanighan got a flick-on to Ali Batey, who tapped in for a 1-3 lead.

With Amble playing good football and creating more chances, they should have been at least another goal to the good going in at half-time.

However, they gave away a free-kick, which took a deflection into the Amble goal for a 2-3 score at the break.

Early in the second half, with some good play between Oliver, Fenwick and Batey, the move finished with Imeson, firing wide of the net.

A James Oliver free-kick into the Ashington penalty area was headed just wide of the net by Batey.

With the Amble back-four of Straughan, Flanighan, Potts and Byrne giving nothing away, their midfield and strikers all did their bit to hold on to claim all three points.
