A community coaching initiative for young footballers has been hailed a success.

Stobswood Welfare AFC has just completed an eight-week programme for four to 13-year-olds, which was enjoyed by all participants.

FA Coaches Josh Rutherford and Jamie Dixon, who both play for Stobswood AFC, were on hand to deliver the coaching sessions, with the help of team members Jack Henderson and Jake Baker.

Team manager Stephen Gibbard’s input was gratefully appreciated by the children and their parents and the committee at Stobswood Welfare was also thanked for its backing and hosting the programme.

Josh Rutherford said: “The response from the kids and parents has been overwhelming.

“It’s been a pleasure to deliver this programme to this community.”

Jamie Dixon added: “It’s been great to see the kids develop their skills and enjoying themselves playing their football.”

The sessions were so successful that the coaches have agreed to carry out a further month of activities following a request from the parents.

Any other children between the reception and Year 8 age groups who would also like to participate in these sessions should contact one of the following: Stephen Gibbard on 07872 330106, Josh Rutherford on 07507 647629, or Jamie Dixon on 07522 950962.
