It’s not every day that you get to train with international footballers.
But that’s exactly what happened for Longhoughton Rangers U14 girls’ side last week.
The young lasses were put through their paces at the village’s Westfield Park complex by four bright stars of the women’s game.
This included England defender Lucy Bronze and Bristol Academy’s Lucy Staniforth, who is capped at U23 level.
Both are former pupils of Alnwick’s Duchess’s Community High School.
They were joined by England and Liverpool Ladies player Gemma Davison and Welsh national-team star Angharad James, also of Bristol Academy.
Bronze, 22, of current Women’s Super League title-holders Liverpool Ladies, said: “It was a great pleasure to be at Longhoughton with the girls.”
Longhoughton Rangers U14s play in the Northumberland Girls’ Football League.
Coach Andrew Newby said: “The girls were put through some training by the international footballers, given some tips and progressed their football throughout the day.”
