Honours even in reverse fixture

FC Amble Juniors U16 2 Ashington Juniors U16 2

U16 League Two

Amble were due to travel away to play Ashington last week, however, with their ground waterlogged, the fixture was reversed.

Ashington scored first in the opening 10 minutes, taking full advantage of a mistake at the back. Amble’s first chance, from a free-kick, was well saved by theAshington keeper. Ali Batey had a decent chance for Amble, shooting just wide of the target.

Ashington had another chance with their striker just missing the ball at the back post. Then from an Ashington free-kick, they doubled their lead, going in at the break (0-2).

Going into the second half, Amble played much better with more of a threat going forward, their first chance from James Oliver going just over the bar.

Amble pulled a goal back, with Andy Flanighan playing the ball to Batey setting up Josh Briggs to tap the ball in at the back-post.

A James Oliver corner was met with a Brad Little header, which looked to be going into the top corner. Somehow the tall Ashington keeper clawed the ball off the line. James Byrne cleared the ball off the line to keep the score 1-2.

With the front two of Batey and Briggs looking lively, it was Batey who equalled the score (2-2).

Going into the closing minutes, Batey pressured the keeper, who struck a back-pass against him, with the ball just going out for a goal-kick. If there were five more minutes of this game, Amble would have surely nicked all three points with a much better performance in the second half.
