ALNWICK Town’s St James’ Park looks set to meet required ground criteria, helping to preserve the club’s Northern League status, after an advisory inspection ruled that only ‘very minor’ work is needed.
League chairman Mike Amos visited the Division Two outfit on Saturday, ahead of their day of judgement at the end of March, when the ground must meet Grade G standard – or face automatic relegation at the close of the season.
But Mr Amos, part of the league grounds’ inspection panel which will make the all-important call in early spring, said he was impressed by what he saw and is sure the ground will be up to scratch come deadline day.
“By and large, I think they have done tremendously well,” he said.
“Most of the areas which were identified last year have been addressed and there are just one or two very minor things which I have asked them to do by the end of March and I haven’t the slightest doubt that they will do the work.”
