Goals galore as Vipers attack

Top-of-the-league Blyth Spartans came to Alnwick on Sunday to play the Vipers in what was to be a great game.

Alnwick started the game well and put the pressure on Blyth from the start, and were soon 1-0 up, with a well-taken corner from Jay McEwan which was headed home by James Bowman.

Vipers were on top for a lot of the game with little reply from Blyth.

Alnwick had a few good chances, but could not put the ball in the net.

Blyth got back in the game from a corner, the ball dropped in the box for Blyth to slot it home 1-1, game on.

Vipers again had chances, but could not hit the net which would cost them.

Three minutes from time Blyth did strike with a unstoppable shot from the wing to take the points.

Manager Dave Middleton was pleased with the work the Vipers put in.

This return fixture on November 10 saw Alnwick play Blyth again.

Alnwick started the game well and were soon on top and two goals up from Lucas and James Dodds.

Blyth got one back to make it 2-1, and they started to play some good football, to put the pressure on Alnwick.

Captain Joshua Middleton got the Vipers back on track. He picked up the ball about 40 yards out and ran with it before cutting in and hitting from distance, leaving the keeper well beaten.

The Vipers were soon putting the goals away. The best of them, two shots from Jay McEwan on the right wing, both about 25 yards out and both in the top corner.

Vipers started the game on October 27 very well.

With a good move down the wing, Vipers got the first goal and added to their tally.

Blyth pulled one back late in the game, but were too late to make a game of it, with Vipers running away with it 8-1.
