AN emphatic 7-0 victory saw Alnwick Gate A crowned champions of Alnwick Premier Darts League’s top flight.
A whitewash over the Fleece ensured the table-topping side cannot be caught at the Division A summit with one game left of the league season.
There was some consolation for the Fleece though, as Kieran Hogg landed his third 180 of the season.
The battle for the runners-up spot will go down to the wire, after Blue Bell A beat Bell Bar B 5-2, leaving both sides locked on 69 points.
It’s all to play for in the last game of the campaign, but the B have won more singles.
Friday’s other top-tier games saw Oddies B beat Farriers 6-1, while newly-named side TeamDinga@GateB – formerly Gate B – threw away a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3 to The George. Magnificent darts by Jimmy Kelly and a 180 from Alan Mole contributed to the fight-back.
The Gate lads have changed their name because they are embarking on a fund-raising 500km bike ride over five days in July, under the banner of TeamDinga.
A website is being set up for sponsors and donations, but in the meantime, they can be followed on Twitter @TeamDinga, while more fund-raising efforts are planned for the future.
In Division B, the derby game at Alnwick Working Men’s Club (AWMC) saw the A team take bragging rights with a 4-3 win over their B side, with captain Dougie McEwan landing a maximum.
The Market Tavern beat Alnwick Castle Golf Club A 5-2 while Oddies A went down 6-1 to Alnwick Gate C. Myles Dean was the lone scorer for the Oddies.
Shilbottle Club defeated Alnwick Castle Golf Club B 6-1. Ross Brown scored the Golf Club’s only point, as well as checking out on 154 – the highest finish in the league this season.
