Longhoughton Rangers U10 4 Whitley Coast Soccer U10 2

A Garreth Rickerby hat-trick was enough to ensure Longhoughton’s erosion of Whitley Coast Soccer.
Kicking off into a very strong wind Longhoughtons slick passing game was soon on show for all to see, cutting through the heart of the Whitley Coast midfield to create the first two chances of the game, Ben Lawton firing inches wide from the edge of the box and Lewis Fairbairn bringing a smart save from the keeper after some good work from Joseph Cormack on the left flank.
A Whitley Coast free kick 20 yards out brought their first real attempt on goal, a thunderous drive which crashed against the rangers cross bar but was hooked to safety by Alex Threlfall.
This seemed to kick-start Rangers who started to get to grips with the physical midfield battle and deservedly took the lead on 10 minutes.
Joe Archbold making, one of many timely tackles in defence. The ball falling kindly to Ben Lawton who played a delightful one-two with Lewis Fairbairn, picked up the return pass, jinked onto his left foot and unleashed a screamer into the top left corner with the keeper rooted to the spot (1-0).
Longhoughton doubled their advantage on 18 minutes when Roan Brayson played a ball into Lewis Fairbairn on the left wing, he turned on the afterburner leaving two defenders in his wake before firing a pin point cross to Garreth Rickerby who controlled the ball on his thigh before picking his spot (2-0).
Longhoughton going into the break, two goals to the good.
Whitley Coast started the second half with some purpose and were soon back in the game.
Some nice passing through the centre of midfield opened up the Rangers defence leaving Coasts Ryan Steen to bury a low shot into the bottom corner (2-1).
Rangers made a tactical change moving Gareth Rickerby up front and were immediately rewarded.
A ferocious effort from Lawton could only be parried by the Coast keeper and Garreth doing what all good strikers do, followed up to net his second of the match (3-1).
Whitley Coast pressing to get back in the game, had an effort brilliantly saved by Zac Stephenson before finding the net once again. A long ball over the top of the Rangers defence found an unmarked Coast striker, who fired in from a tight angle (3-2).
A sustained spell of Longhoughton pressure followed with the Coast keeper making a series of fine saves from Cormack, Fairbairn and Lawton before finally succumbing to the hat-trick hero Rickerby.
After robbing the ball in midfield Roan Brayson fired in a shot from the right edge of the box, which the keeper could only push straight into the path of the marauding Rickerby, leaving him the simplest of tasks stroking the ball into the empty net for a well deserved hat-trick (4-2).
