Former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew enjoyed a fairytale return to Selhurst Park, overseeing his new club Crystal Palace’s spirited comeback against Tottenham this afternoon.

In the late kick-off, Palace secured their first Premier League win since November, a run of nine league games, which lifted them out of the bottom three to 15th.

Meanwhile, the club he left behind suffered defeat at the hands of league leaders Chelsea, who stole a march on Manchester City with the 2-0 victory.

City dropped two points after a 1-1 draw at Everton.

It was also a bad day for Sunderland, who suffered a 0-1 home defeat to Liverpool after being reduced to 10 men. It was a lacklustre display that leaves Sunderland just one point and two places above the drop zone.
