Eclipse shine at the summit

Rothbury Eclipse U14...4 Alnmouth U14...1

Glendale League U14

IT was appropriate that a header from Chris Coe sealed four wins out of four for Rothbury Eclipse against Alnmouth.

Chris Coe is Rothbury’s leading goal scorer in the Under 14 Glendale League and the well-taken goal propelled Eclipse into a two-way tie at the top of the table.

The goalless opening 20 minutes had suggested a tight encounter but, after Rothbury’s Kyle Smith converted an intricate passing movement, the Eclipse team started to ease away from their seaside rivals. The first half ended with Rothbury a further two goals to the good after Chris Coe scored a brace.

Even though Alnmouth showed fighting spirit by starting the second half with a Zac Freeman goal, the Rothbury side always seemed to have plenty in reserve.

The game ended as a contest when Jordan Bruce whipped a dipping left-footed corner into the Alnmouth area.

Chris Coe met the excellent delivery with a nonchalant glancing header and this razor-sharp finish applied the gloss on another excellent Rothbury victory.

Rothbury: Scott Ballantyne, Chris Coe, Thomas Hammond, Ben Proudlock, Kyle Smith, Sean Tasker Brown, Jordan Bruce, Bailey Paterson & Ryan Young. Rothbury Eclipse man-of-the-match: Chris Coe.
