East Chev bow to Pier pressure

AMBLE Pier 81 made an impressive start to their defence of the George Cave Memorial Cup as they racked up 11 goals without reply in their Round One clash with East Chevington.

The clash between last season’s league champions and runners-up saw Pegswood Ex-Services host Stakeford Half Moon. It was the away side who progressed thanks to goals from Liam Candlish (two) and Joe Moscrop, which earned a 3-1 win – Kevin Bell was the marksman for Pegswood.

Red Row Brick Club enjoyed a 5-1 success at Morpeth Riverside Lodge. Connor Oliver bagged the Lodge’s goal, with Paul Dewson, Sean Anderson, Craig Keen and Adam Shanks (two) on target for the Brick Club.

The tie between Village Inn, Longframlington and Bedlington Barrington Arms finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Barrington Arms had much the better of the extra-time as they ended the game winning 6-1.

Tom McPherson scored for Village Inn, but goals for David Scott (two), Gavin Middleton, David Bates, Colin Maddigan and an own-goal saw the Arms through to the next round.

Ashington RAOB made it a clean sweep of away wins as they beat Choppington Traveller’s Rest 4-0.

Woodhorn Lane won the only game in Division One as they hosted Bomarsund Social Club, which ended 2-1.

North End Trap, Broomhill went goal crazy in Division Two as they hammered Alnmouth Argyle 15-1. Liam Roper scored for Argyle.

Felton beat River Coquet FC 6-1 with goals from Kevin Elliott (three), Tony Brown (two) and Gareth McCann. Gary Taylor replied for River Coquet.

Blackthorn Rovers are still looking for their first point following a 5-0 reverse at home to Amble Dock Hotel, who saw Carl Taylor (two), Mick Straker, Wayne Gair and Alex Potts hit the target. Newbiggin Bank House secured back to back wins with a 3-1 away victory at Morpeth Chantry.
