Alnwick Town 1 Ashington 1

The points were shared on Sunday, but Alnwick will feel it was two points dropped.

The game was end-to-end and both teams were committed to the cause.

But Ashington took the lead on 13 minutes when a corner from the left was deflected into their own net by Alnwick winger Elliott Wass. The home side tried hard to get an equaliser with efforts from Max Paige, Connor Radden and Joe Aynsley narrowly missing.

Alnwick dominated the second half and should really have been out of sight with chances missed by James Chrisp and Aynsley. Tom Forster also went close with a direct free-kick from the edge of the box.

Town’s pressure eventually told on 40 minutess when another free-kick from 20 yards was curled in the top corner by the tenacious Joe Aynsley.

Ashington nearly stole the points when their striker was clear through on goal, but a fine sliding tackle by Alnwick skipper Harry Felton prevented the goal.
