Alnwick Town...0 Morpeth Town...4
Alnwick Town slipped to their third straight defeat with a 4-0 loss against Morpeth Town in today’s Ebac Northern League Division Two clash.
The scoreline was harsh on Alnwick, who hit the woodwork twice and created the better chances throughout.
For the second home game in a row, the St James’ Park side conceded early, this time going behind after just two minutes when Michael Chilton steered the ball in from close range.
Alnwick, who were missing a string of first-team regulars, battled back and had a number of good efforts, with livewire Wyn Fremlin going close on more than one occasion, before Danny Lowes hit the post with a speculative shot from outside the area.
Morpeth scored their second on the stroke of half-time when a mistake by Alnwick keeper Ryan Beal led to Chilton scoring again.
Two-nil soon became three-nil.
Five minutes after the break, Morpeth’s Andrew Keenan scored a free-kick.
Morpeth increased their lead in the 65th minute, when a Steven Anderson strike deflected off Alnwick’s Gary Patterson.
Marc Nixon hit the bar for Alnwick in the game’s dying stages.
It summed up Alnwick’s frustrating day and left them still searching for their first win of the season.
