Wooler...3 Shilbottle CW...1

North Northumberland Division One

SHILBOTTLE just came up short against the new league champions in this competitive encounter at the Martins, Wooler.

Play was fairly even early on, during which Shaun Black had an effort well saved by the Wooler keeper and Josh Rutherford made a fine save in the Shilbottle goal.

But, the Colliers took the lead after 25 minutes when Richard Brown broke clear to lob the Wooler keeper and put his side ahead (0-1). Wooler equalised just before the break when the Shilbottle keeper failed to deal with a bouncing through-ball, leaving a James Scott to shoot into an empty net (1-1).

The scores were level at the interval but the Colliers should have regained the lead shortly after the restart.

A clear opportunity was spooned over the bar by Jake Lewney when it might have been easier to score.

The Colliers were made to pay for this miss on the hour when Craig Henderson headed home from a left-wing corner to put Wooler ahead (2-1).

The Colliers battled well to get back into the game but the match was effectively settled 10 minutes from time when Wooler broke away to grab a third goal and complete a worthy victory (3-1).
