High Howden SC 0 Shilbottle CW 9
NFA Minor Cup, Round Four
Shilbottle stormed into the quarter-finals of the NFA Minor Cup with this resounding victory over fellow Northern Alliance Division Two opponents at the Tyne Tunnel Industrial Estate.
Having struggled to beat the same opposition by the odd goal only a few weeks ago, a difficult game was anticipated.
However, the Colliers proved to be much too strong on this occasion to comfortably advance to the next round.
Shilbottle were quickly into their stride and good chances fell to Liam Brooks, Josh Hay and Matty Graham before Brooks finally put the Colliers ahead when he headed a right-wing corner against the bar, but followed up quickly to strike home after 20 minutes.
Within a further five minutes, the Colliers were two up when Hay controlled a high ball on his chest to turn and shoot into the corner of the net.
Matty Graham struck a post before getting a third goal for Shilbottle after 35 minutes to give his side a comfortable lead at the interval.
Following the restart the goals flowed at regular intervals as the Colliers ran riot.
Good work by Josh Hay set up Kevin Elliott to score from close range before Liam Brooks smashed a cracking drive from 20 yards into the corner of the net to bring up goal number five.
Matty Graham then scored a fine individual goal as he flicked the ball over the keeper to head into an open net.
Good play again from Hay then set up Graham for a tap-in to complete his hat-trick on 75 minutes. Shortly after, a fine cross from Michael Brown saw Graham get his fourth and Shilbottle’s eighth goal.
Five minutes from time, good work down the right and a fine cross from Phil Grey set up Ross Gair to finish well with a ninth goal and complete a comprehensive victory.
