Northern Football Alliance Bay Plastics George Dobbins League Cup, Round Two

Shilbottle progressed to the third round of the League Cup with this comfortable victory over fellow Division Two opponents at Forest Hall on Saturday.

The Colliers were quickly into their stride and should have taken the lead after only five minutes’ play when Richard Brown broke clear only to strike a post.

However, they did take the lead after 20 minutes when a strong drive from Ross Gair was parried by the Forest Hall keeper and Richard Brown followed up to slot home (0-1).

Kevin Elliott then had a cracking drive tipped over the bar and a Gair header struck the keeper on the line to rebound clear.

The Colliers increased their advantage after 40 minutes when Gair headed home at the back post from a deep cross by Michael Brown (0-2).

Just before the interval, Josh Hay seized on a through-ball from Kevin Elliott to out-muscle a defender and shoot home to give the Colliers a comfortable three-goal advantage at the break (0-3).

The second half was a little more even but Shilbottle had several good chances to increase their advantage.

Gair clipped the outside of a post when he should have done better and Kevin Elliott had another effort tipped over before Hay struck the bar.

They eventually got a fourth goal after 70 minutes when Hay was tripped in the box and he got up to slam home the resultant penalty and complete a comfortable victory (0-4).
