Ryton Juniors U16 0 FC Amble Juniors U16 1
U16 Division Two
Having not played for two weeks, Amble were keen to get back to action with a tough away game against Ryton.
Amble opted to play against a fierce wind in the first half, hoping to soak up the pressure from the home team and counter-attack when they could.
This proved the right option with Amble having four good chances and Ryton having none.
The Amble back four of Straughan, Potts, Flanighan and Byrne gave nothing away with some tremendous defending.
Amble’s first chance of the game came with a great through-ball from James Oliver into the path of Josh Briggs, who got a quick shot away, only to be denied by the home keeper.
Ali Batey had a good solo run, then a quick shot on target, saved again by the keeper, with the defender clearing the ball to safety.
Josh Briggs showed his determination, getting past the defender with another good effort on target, the keeper saving again.
Ali Batey then won the ball on the right side and rifled a great shot that hit the bar. Jason Imeson slotted in the rebound, but a late flag from the linesman signalled Batey offside.
The second half got under way, with Ryton on the attack.
Brad Little got his body in the way for a great block to deny the home side.
Nine minutes into the second half, the hard-working Callum Fenwick whipped in a good corner that glanced off the head of a Ryton defender and went into the top corner for a 0-1 lead.
Jason Imeson had a good strike that looked goal-bound but the keeper got his hands to the ball, which bounced straight in front of him and he collected comfortably.
Jordan King had a good chance to double Amble’s lead with his strike going just wide. Ryton pushed for the equaliser in the closing minutes of the game. However, throughout the game, Amble defended in numbers, playing some good football and creating chances for a solid team performance on the day.
