Amble Utd...5 Berwick Ultras...0
AMBLE United welcomed Berwick Ultras to the Running Track pitch for a Division One match after another three weeks’ lay-off due to the inclement weather.
Amble took the initiative from the kick-off and grabbed the lead in the 15th minute when Sean Taylor fed the ball through to Josh Hay after some good approach play down the left. Hay took the ball to the by-line and scored from an acute angle.
After this, Amble continued to play some very good, attacking football, creating some very good chances, with both Taylor and Hay going close on several occasions. The score at half-time was 1-0 to Amble.
The home side started the second half brightly and went two up in the 57th minute, when Michael Dance made a good run up the left and squared a good ball over for Ross Gair to volley home.
Amble were now on top of their game. The visitors never gave up but found their opponents’ back four very hard to break down and Andrew Patterson was having a very quiet game in the Amble goal.
The home side went three up in the 83rd minute when Taylor played a very good ball up the left and squared for Hay to fire home for his second.
Just a minute later, Amble went four up after a corner from the right, which Derek Atwell headed onto the crossbar. It came out for Hay to slot the ball home for his hat-trick.
In the 88th minute, Amble went five up, when Stephen Gibbard scored with a good shot from 20 yards into the top right corner of the net, giving the visitors’ keeper Jonathan Gall no chance and making the final score 5-0 to Amble.
Manager Ronnie Gibbard used all his subs, with Stephen Gibbard replacing Michael Dance, Paul Brennan for Ross Gair and Kerry Shotton for Ross Young.
This was a very good all-round team performance to get them back to winning ways.
