Amble edging closer to league title

Amble Utd...3 Wallington...0

PIN POINT RECRUITMENT NORTHERN ALLIANCE LEAGUE, DIVISION ONE

AMBLE strode to a comfortable win as they played hosts to Wallington in a Division One match on Saturday.

In the 30th minute the visitors nearly took the lead but for a tremendous save by Andrew Patterson in the home goal.

Then Amble went straight down to the other end but a good shot by Sean Taylor was stopped by Chris Straker, who pulled off a very good save to keep the game goalless at half-time.

After the interval Amble were playing the better football and were creating some good chances. They took the lead in the 60th minute when Josh Hay was pulled down in the box and Sean Taylor converted the spot-kick.

Amble kept up the pressure on the visitors’ defence and increased their lead in the 70th minute after some great approach play up the right by Darren Riddell.

He put over a very good cross for Sean Taylor to volley home his second.

However, Wallington came into the game a bit more after conceding and were putting the home defence under a bit of pressure, winning a few corner kicks, but the Amble defence stood strong.

They scored again in the 81st minute when, after a goalmouth scramble, Bradley Wake was there to head the ball home and make the final score 3-0 to Amble, who need just three more points from their three remaining games to win the league.
