Despite a valiant effort, Alnwick Town’s dream of walking out on the Wembley turf in the FA Vase Final is over for another year.

They were knocked out in the first qualifying round at home to Albion Sports this afternoon.

Town went down 2-3 after coming back from two goals adrift.

Albion took the lead through their number 9, then had a goal disallowed.

A good effort from Elliott was tipped over the bar by the Albion keeper before the visitors doubled their lead.

An own-goal brought Town back into it and when Liam Armstrong scored his first goal for the club to make it level before half-time, the dreams of Wembley were back on.

But Albion, currently third in the Northern Counties East League, Premier Division, a tier higher than Alnwick, scored in the second half to break Town’s hearts and progress to the next round.
