THE annual Alnwick Rugby Club rounders tournament has been hailed a success.
The competition was staged on Friday night, attracting 10 teams and producing a fun night of sporting action.
And it was Flowers For Julie who won the competition, beating Yaggi in the final, which was played under the floodlights.
The winning team, captained by Alnmouth Cricket Club’s Tom Vickers, lifted the coveted trophy, which is sponsored by Motorcare Alnwick, and shared the £100 cash prize.
It rounded off a great night of rounders.
Organiser Nigel Davies said: “It was one of the best nights we have had.
“There were fewer sides this year but it was one of the most friendly rounders tournaments we have had.
“It had such a good atmosphere and the evening was played in good spirit.
“There were a lot of kids involved, too, and they had a great night.”
He also paid tribute to Dorothy Keenan’s No-Hopers, who were crowned the best turned-out side as well as the most sociable team.
He praised the two teams that entered from Alnwick & District Round Table, who had some talented young rounders players in their ranks, while international side – The New Zealand Shearers – also took part.
The teams were cheered on by a big crowd, with spectators turning out in force.
Organisers have thanked everyone who helped out, played in and supported the event.
