Flood helps England to comfortable victory

FORMER Alnwick and Morpeth player Toby Flood was back in action at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand this morning.

Flood, who grew up in Morpeth and attended Morpeth Chantry Middle School, came on for Jonny Wilkinson in the second half of England's 67-3 demolishing of Romania.

The Leicester Tiger was given the nod ahead of Wilkinson last week against Georgia but several pundits felt he didn't do enough to stake his claim on the number 10 shirt.

In Dunedin this morning, Flood oversaw England's 33-point second-half haul adding four conversions with the boot although he came on with the game effectively over at 34-3.

His contribution also included a 50-metre break from his own line in the dying minutes which almost led to England's 11th try.

England, who are through to the quarter-final stage if Scotland beat Argentina tomorrow, face the old enemy in their last group game in Auckland next Saturday.
