Huddersfield YMCA 43 Alnwick 5
Alnwick slumped to a heavy defeat this afternoon in North One East and face a long journey back from Yorkshire after losing 43-5 to high-flying Huddersfield.
The hosts, who were second in the league prior to kick-off after winning 15 and drawing one this season, galloped into a 19-0 lead before Alnwick hit back with an unconverted try.
But that was to be the visitors’ only score of a tough afternoon and the home side added another 24 points before the end.
It comes on the back of a solid win for the league newcomers last week, when Alnwick won at home 34-19 against West Hartlepool, moving them up to seventh in the table.
Meanwhile, Alnwick’s invincible Colts side made it 14 wins from 14 this term as they saw off derby rivals Morpeth by 30 points to 26.
And the victory, which cements the hosts’ place at the league summit, was made more poignant as it also meant that they won the first Nathan Moore Cup, named in honour of the 18-year-old Alnwick player who died after an eight-month battle with cancer in May last year.
