Festive run as popular as ever

ALNWICK Harriers celebrated Christmas in their usual manner on Wednesday evening, in bitter cold air, albeit with clear skies and thankfully dry weather.

The club held their Christmas parlouf event which consists of teams of three completing 700m x 2 laps in Alnwick. The relays combine all categories of runner in the club, bringing all members together in a social gathering.

The winning team was Jo Gascoigne Owen, David Nolan and Bridget Peberdy out of a well-supported group of more than 12 teams.

On Sunday, the club held the annual Christmas Handicap race through a freezing and magnificently picturesque Hulne Park in a changed-from-normal out-and-back 10k route.

First male to finish in his handicapped time was Richard Agen and second was Graham Skirrow. Jim Lillico took third position.

For the female Harriers, Sue Bolam was first, Mairi Campbell was second, followed by Sue Skirrow.

Presentations were made at The Oddfellows Arms followed by warm bowls of soup and sandwiches.

Yuletide congratulations are in order for all those who supported or competed and to those whose tireless efforts led to the excellent organisation of these events.

The final festive event will be the Winter Coastal Run from Beadnell to Alnmouth – a seasonal social run ever increasing in popularity.
