Embleton (147-4) v Rock (109-8)
Embleton made it through to the semi-finals of the Vice President’s Cup with a 38-run win away at Rock on Sunday.
Batting first, the away side posted a very respectable 147 in their 20 overs, although the innings did not get off to a smooth start.
Opener Martin Grey was out for 15, closely followed by Richard Alsept (two), Thomas Davidson (four) and Philip Grey (four).
But then the ship was well and truly steadied by James Thorpe, who scored 68 not out, and Gary Davison who finished on 43 not out.
Pick of the Rock bowlers was Kevin Wilson with figures of 2-10.
Henry Young and Oliver Page also struck for the home side.
In reply, it was, if not 50 Shades of Grey, then certainly three as Martin (two), Philip (two) and Hedley (one) all took wickets.
Opener Kevin Wilson top-scored for Rock with 23, and even if the Embleton attack was quite generous, giving away 28 extras, the home side still fell 38 runs short as the overs ran out.
The semi-final line-up for the cup is now complete with Embleton set to travel to Mitford, and Alnmouth & Lesbury seconds due to play host to Wooler.
Both ties are pencilled in the fixture list for this coming Sunday, although as with the season so far, the weather and pitch condition may have something to say.
The quarter-finals were due to be played on the weekend of June 24, but were only completed this weekend. The final will be played on August 12.
