Alnwick I (98) v Benwell & Walbottle (183-2)
Wellstream Northumberland and Tyneside Senior Cricket League, Division A2
Following the atrocious weather, Alnwick were able to travel to Walbottle to play their fourth league fixture of the season and, in a game restricted to 40 overs per side, were comprehensively trounced by 95 runs. With the odd exception, Alnwick produced their worst performance for some time.
Tom Robertson and Andrew Scott attempted to salvage some pride, but after being dismissed the innings folded for less than 100.
Alnwick won the toss and put the home side in, Robertson striking two early blows to leave them 16-2.
Raza, the home captain and professional, gave a chance that was spurned and he made Alnwick pay with an agressive innings that ended two runs short of a century.
He was ably supported by opener Carr who also ended not out, on 59.
Alnwick started their reply disastrously, losing five wickets for 18 runs. Scott and Robertson then attempted to take the game to the Benwell and added 68 for the sixth wicket, before Scott was caught for 20. Woods departed cheaply and then Robertson was stumped for 48, in an innings which included three sixes and one four. The only good thing to come from the game was that it was played at all, and it is hoped this week against Newcastle City will see a return to form.
